Yin Shaoting, Chair of the Department of Anthropology, Yunnan University,
professor, doctoral adviser, member of the Standing Council of China
Society of Ethnology, former vice president of Yunnan Museum. Visiting
Research Fellow to the National Ethnology Museum of Japan and Visiting
Professor to Kyoto University and Tokyo University of Foreign Languages
from 1990-1996. Main areas of research include: ecological anthropology,
anthropology museum and cultural heritage protection. Leader of
such international projects as Construction of Yunnan Ethnic Cultural
Village, Ecology of Mekong Region, and Comparative Study on Ethnic
Ecology in Southeast Asia in recent years. Publications include:
A Controversial Cultural-Ecological System: Studies on Yunnan's
Swidden Farming, Yunnan's Material Culture: Agriculture Volume,
Man and Forest: Swidden Farming in the Eyes of an Ecological Anthropologist,
edited Yunnan Material Culture Series and Frontier Culture Series,
Reports on Yunnan's Trial on Ethnic Eco-Cultural Village, Ethnic
Ecology: From Jinsha River to the Red River and three translations
including The Road of Rice. Of them Yunnan's Material Culture: Agriculture
Volume won the 11th China Book Award, and Yunnan Material Culture
Series was nominated for the 6th National Book Award. Prof. Yin
enjoys the State Council's Special Subsidy for his outstanding achievements
and won the prize for outstanding teachers from the Wu Daguan Education
Fund at Yunnan University.
